GRADE / SALARY: £29,522.27 FTE per annum

HOURS: 37.5 hours per week

Purpose of the Job: To work as part of the Reach team and alongside the Community Mental Health Teams (CHMTs) to support clients with severe mental illness (SMI) to reach their goals. As Deputy Team Leader you will also mentor, support and develop other staff in the team and deputise for the Team Leader as required.

Main Duties:

  • Support the Team Leader with the day-to-day operational management of the service, including referral allocation, waiting-list oversight, workload management, caseload capacity, staff deployment and continuity of service delivery.
  • Undertake regular caseload management with Reach workers, reviewing contact levels, DNAs, recording quality, outcome measures, intervention purpose, review dates, time on caseload, discharge planning and any risks or concerns requiring escalation.
  • Support the supervision, induction and development of Reach staff through regular one-to-ones, reflective practice, work and learning objectives, appraisal preparation, systems training, shadowing and stepped caseload development.
  • Maintain oversight of practice and recording standards, ensuring client notes, assessments, risk information, outcome measures, reviews and discharge records are accurate, timely and completed in line with agreed processes.
  • Hold a small caseload of Reach clients, providing recovery-focused, person-centred support that helps people work towards personalised goals, build confidence, connect with their community and move towards discharge.
  • Use lived experience of mental health problems and recovery, where appropriate, to inspire and support others while maintaining clear professional boundaries.
  • Support safeguarding, risk management and incident response, ensuring concerns are identified, recorded, reviewed, escalated and followed up appropriately.
  • Contribute to audits, data-quality checks, service trackers, outcome monitoring and performance reporting, helping the service demonstrate quality, impact and compliance with contractual requirements and KPIs.
  • Build effective working relationships with CMHT colleagues and hubs across the district.
  • Attend CMHT huddles, Reach team meetings, Operational Leadership Team meetings and other internal or external meetings as required, representing the Team Leader or service when delegated.
  • Support service improvement by identifying themes, barriers, risks and opportunities from caseload management, audits, performance data, staff feedback and partnership working, and helping to implement agreed changes.
  • Support the Team Leader with recruitment, staffing, absence cover and other operational priorities, escalating service risks and support needs to the Team Leader or Head of Operations as appropriate.

Person Specification:

Listed below are the knowledge, experience skills and values you’ll need to do this job, we will assess these through your application or through tests or interviews after shortlisting.

  • Educated to GCSE Level 4 or above, or equivalent experience.
  • Practical knowledge and/or lived experience of the challenges facing people who have difficulties relating to their mental health.
  • At least 2 years’ experience of working one to one with clients who face challenges with their mental health, including with clients who have SMI.
  • Some experience of working in a multi-agency health or social care setting.
  • Experience of using IT systems to record client notes.
  • Non-judgmental and supportive interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage a caseload and workload effectively.
  • Competent in Word, Excel, Outlook.
  • A firm belief that all people matter and deserve respect.
  • An evidenced belief that everyone can change.
