OUTLINE OF THE NIGHT SHIFT CUSTOMS CLERK ROLE:
Working 6pm to 6am as part of a small team of 3, you will manage end-to-end import and export operations, ensuring the timely, cost-effective, and compliant movement of temperature controlled road freight. Prepare and submit customs declarations, coordinate customs clearance, and liaise with customers, suppliers, warehouses, and authorities to ensure smooth release and distribution of goods.
Key Responsibilities of the Customs Clerk:
- Submit customs declarations and manage HMRC/CDS entries
- Ensure compliance with UK and international customs regulations, tariffs, and trade agreements
- Calculate and arrange payment of duties and taxes
- Coordinate DEFRA/IPAFFS applications where required
- Communicate with stakeholders to resolve delays or shipment issues
- Maintain accurate documentation and full customs compliance
Experience & Skills:
- 12 years HMRC entry processing / CDS experience
- Strong HS code classification knowledge
- Understanding of PECH and DEFRA processes
- Temperature-controlled goods knowledge
- Cargowise experience (advantageous)
- Strong communication, organisation, teamwork, and problem-solving skills
