Health and Safety Lead
Application Deadline: 19 September 2026
Department: People & Culture
Employment Type: Permanent - Full Time
Location: Skibo Castle, Highland
Compensation: Β£40,000 / year
Description
This is not a role for someone who believes the answer to managing risk is simply to say no. We need someone who can understand our operation, build strong relationships and help our people manage risk practically and proportionately.
About the Role
- Review and understand our existing health and safety policies, procedures, risk assessments, audits, inspections and records, ensuring recommendations from external consultants are considered, prioritised and implemented where appropriate.
- Identify opportunities to simplify, strengthen and improve our current approach, developing a clear and practical health and safety framework that works across the Club, Estate and individual Departments.
- Build strong relationships with managers and teams, working collaboratively to support consistent and effective health and safety practices across their areas.
- Maintain our health and safety management system, documentation, records and reporting.
- Ensure we continue to meet relevant legal requirements and keep up to date with changes in legislation, regulation and industry guidance.
- Establish a sensible programme of inspections, reviews and follow-up actions, ensuring any issues identified are addressed appropriately.
- Support the management and investigation of workplace accidents, incidents and near misses, identifying practical improvements where required.
- Liaise with external specialists, recognising when matters can be managed internally and when specialist advice would add value.
- Deliver engaging, relevant training and toolbox talks that help our people understand what good health and safety looks like in practice.
- Provide clear, pragmatic advice on legal requirements, sensible precautions and best practice.
- Help build a positive health and safety culture where people feel confident making good decisions and understand that keeping each other safe is a shared responsibility.
About You
- A pragmatic and proportionate approach to health and safety.
- Strong commercial awareness, with an understanding that good health and safety should support the business to operate safely and effectively.
- A collaborative approach, working with team members and Heads of Department across the Estate to understand challenges and find workable solutions.
- A warm, approachable and people-focused style.
- The confidence to challenge constructively, explaining concerns and working towards solutions rather than simply saying no.
- A calm, reliable and resourceful approach, with good judgement and the confidence to make balanced decisions.
- Curiosity, enthusiasm and a genuine willingness to understand the βwhyβ behind how we operate.
- A hands-on approach, with a willingness to get out across the Estate, understand how teams work in practice and see things first-hand.
- Proven experience in a Health and Safety role within a complex operational environment.
- Strong working knowledge of UK H&S legislation and regulatory requirements.
- Experience developing and maintaining H&S management systems.
- Experience undertaking audits, inspections, risk assessments and incident investigations/reports.
