We are looking for an FCL Export Operator to join our Wholesale team based in Basildon.
The FCL Export Operator is responsible for the end-to-end management of Full Container Load (FCL) export shipments, ensuring customer requirements are delivered efficiently, compliantly and profitably. The role acts as a key point of contact for customers, overseas agents, shipping lines and suppliers, ensuring bookings, documentation and shipment activities are completed accurately while maintaining high levels of customer service and operational performance. The FCL Operator contributes to customer retention, business growth and continuous improvement across export operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage FCL export shipments from booking through to completion, ensuring all operational activities are completed accurately and within agreed timescales.
- Act as a key point of contact for customers, suppliers, overseas agents and shipping lines, responding to enquiries and providing shipment updates.
- Process, manage and confirm customer bookings, ensuring all booking information is accurate and communicated promptly.
- Prepare, review and distribute export documentation, ensuring shipping documentation, master bills and house bills are accurate and issued on time.
- Monitor shipment progress and proactively communicate delays, issues or service disruptions to relevant stakeholders.
- Liaise with shipping lines and carriers to confirm shipment details and ensure cargo moves in line with customer requirements.
- Ensure customs requirements and export references are obtained and processed within required timescales.
- Maintain accurate operational records, shipment data and analysis codes within company systems.
- Identify opportunities to maximise shipment profitability through effective supplier management, commercial decision-making and value-added services.
- Negotiate with carriers and suppliers to secure commercially competitive solutions and improve profit margins.
- Prepare quotations for overseas agents and support the development of new and existing business opportunities.
- Ensure estimates, invoicing information and additional charges are processed accurately and in line with company requirements.
- Support the resolution of operational, financial and customer-related issues, escalating concerns where appropriate.
- Contribute to business growth initiatives by identifying opportunities to expand services and strengthen customer relationships.

- Knowledge of customs requirements and export compliance processes desirable.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload effectively.
- Commercial awareness with experience managing supplier costs and profitability.
- Excellent communication skills and professional telephone manner
- Ability to use initiative, resolve issues and manage competing priorities.
- Minimum of two years' freight forwarding or logistics experience desirable.
