If you’re looking to pursue a career in the sustainability, renewables or environmental sector our internships offer a fantastic opportunity to build your knowledge, skills and professional network. You’ll get a real insight into our business, as well as valuable experience in a supportive environment working alongside some of the most knowledgeable people in our sector.
A key focus of this internship will be to provide support to the Welsh Government Energy Service programme, working across several disciplines within our Wales office in Cardiff. Applications from Welsh residents would be desirable, but not essential.
Carbon Trust internships are offered on a paid basis, and this internship is scheduled to finish at the end of March 2027.

Main duties and responsibilities:
- You will be expected to apply a high degree of independence and initiative in delivering high quality work which includes the following:
- Supporting and participating in projects to deliver quality outputs
- Communicating findings orally and in writing (e.g. during meetings and in reports)
- Supporting technical modelling and calculations with energy data
- Participating in site visits and other client engagements alongside senior colleagues
- Conducting research to support both business development and project delivery
- Assisting with proposal writing and business development activities
- Contributing to knowledge management across the team
- Providing general administrative and project support
Key skills we are looking for:
- Degree educated or equivalent
- Highly numerate, with strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
- Experience in conducting research, with strong attention to detail and appropriate use of AI tools
- Interest in decarbonisation innovation and climate change adaptation
- Experience of, or interest in, one or more of the following areas: energy management, energy efficiency, renewable energy, carbon footprinting, carbon innovation and/or net zero strategies
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to present technical information clearly and concisely to non-technical audiences
- Ability to work effectively within a team environment
- Ability to work independently, taking initiative and ownership of tasks, with strong organisational and time management skills
