Job Description

Operations Controller

Burton Latimer based – 4 on 4 off (nights)

Temporary-Permanent

18:00 – 06:00, 4 on 4 off shift pattern

£34,624.51 pa

Our client, a leading logistics provider, is seeking an Operations Controller to join their team in Burton Latimer. This is a vital role within their Retail Division, supporting driver management, compliance, and operational efficiency.

The key responsibilities of an Operations Controller:

• Manage and maintain daily depot reports, ensuring timely and accurate completion

• Coordinate driver recruitment, assessments, inductions, and related documentation

• Oversee driver files including holiday records, SSW documentation, appraisals, and disciplinary notes

• Conduct exit interviews and manage all leaving procedures, liaising with Payroll and HR

• Handle driver absences in line with company policies, including holiday planning and sickness

• Administer agency driver bookings and compliance with Safe Systems of Work

• Ensure full adherence to Working Time Directive and EU driver hours regulations

• Monitor and investigate infringements, PCNs/NIPs, unaccounted mileage and near-miss incidents

• Ensure all incidents and major events are logged correctly in the company reporting system

• Book and track CPC training to ensure driver legal compliance

• • Adhere to all Health & Safety requirements, company policies, and legal obligations

The minimum requirements for the Operations Controller role:

• GCSEs (grade C or above) in English and Maths (or equivalent), with at least 5 GCSEs total

• Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel

• Working knowledge of WTD, EU drivers’ hours and the GTS system

• Experience within the logistics or transport sector

The ideal candidate for the Operations Controller role:

• Nationally recognised Health & Safety qualification

• CPC National qualification

• 2+ years in a managerial role within transport or logistics

• Proven experience in driver management, compliance and shift-based operations
