About Safenet
We provide domestic abuse services across the Northwest of England, including refuges for women and children, safe houses for men, community support, and extra support for those facing addiction, mental health, or other issues. We understand the serious impact domestic abuse can have, especially on health and wellbeing, and provide support and guidance to help survivors live safely and securely.
About the service
We provide a 24-hour based service with capacity for 20 survivors and children. The service operates continuously throughout the day and night, with staffing arrangements to provide appropriate support and ensure the safety and wellbeing of the families. During the day, staff work on a four weekly rotating rota. Overnight, the service operates with a combination of sleep-in staff and waking night staff.
About the role
As a Domestic Abuse Practitioner in safe accommodation, you will play a vital role in supporting women and children affected by domestic abuse to feel safer, heard and empowered. Working within a busy refuge environment, you will provide trauma-responsive, survivor-led emotional and practical support from the point of arrival through to recovery, resettlement and independence. You will hold a caseload, complete risk assessments and support plans, develop safety and recovery plans, and work closely with partner agencies to ensure residents receive coordinated, inclusive and responsive support.
What we are looking for
- We welcome applicants from a range of relevant backgrounds; direct refuge experience is not essential, but you do need to bring credibility, confidence and compassion from related fields.
- You might come from:
- Substance misuse or addiction recovery services
- Trauma‑informed women’s services
- Mental health or psychologically informed environments (PIE)
- Housing or supported accommodation with complex needs
- You will bring:
- A clear understanding of domestic abuse and violence and its impacts.
- Experience of key working, creating support plans, delivering support, conducting risk assessments and safety planning in a person-centred and trauma informed approach.
- Proven experience of providing direct emotional, practical and welfare support to women, men and children.
- Ability to build effective relationships, liaising with agencies and being an advocate.
- Excellent time management and organisational skills working on own initiative and within a multi-disciplinary team environment.
