Shift Maintenance Engineer

Ready to keep production moving, solve problems fast and make a real difference? We’re looking for an experienced, multi-skilled Shift Maintenance Engineer to join our Engineering team in Bala, North Wales. This is a hands‑on role where you’ll play a vital part in keeping our factory running safely, efficiently and reliably. From responding to breakdowns and delivering planned maintenance to driving improvements across machinery, hygiene, quality and performance — no two shifts will be the same.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Respond quickly and effectively to breakdowns, minimising equipment downtime.
• Carry out reactive, proactive and planned preventative maintenance (PPM) across the site.
• Diagnose faults and repair plant and machinery, both independently and as part of a team.
• Drive improvements in plant uptime, OEE and engineering performance.
• Support new machinery and wider site improvement projects.
• Maintain high standards of Health & Safety, Food Safety and GMP.
• Work closely with Production and external contractors to keep operations running smoothly.
• Maintain engineering records, complete work orders and support engineering stock control.
• Contribute to production meetings and promote strong communication across Engineering and Production.
• Learn new skills and share your knowledge with colleagues.

The role requires flexibility around production needs and involves working 12‑hour day or night shifts, including weekends on a shift rotation pattern.

What We’re Looking For

• At least 3 years’ engineering experience.
• A formal NVQ Level 3 or higher engineering qualification in an electrical or mechanical discipline.
• A recognised engineering apprenticeship.
• 17th or 18th Edition certification.
• Strong fault-finding and breakdown experience.
• The ability to read and understand electrical and mechanical drawings/manuals.
• Excellent communication and decision‑making skills.
• A flexible, logical and hands‑on approach.
• The confidence to work independently while also being a strong team player.
• Computer literacy, including experience with MS Office and a PPM system.
• A positive will‑do attitude and a logical and inquisitive approach to problem solving.

FOOD MANUFACTURING EXPERIENCE? EVEN BETTER.

Food industry experience is essential, while experience within a bakery environment would be particularly advantageous.

Experience with equipment such as metal detectors, mixers, depositors, sonic cutters, labelling machines, conveyers and flow wrappers would also be a plus.
