The Business of Fashion is seeking an Editorial Apprentice to provide operational and social media support to our newsroom in London and contribute to our dynamic coverage of the fashion and beauty industry. This is an exciting, 12-month opportunity to join a driven editorial team that has a razor-sharp focus on delivering scoops, agenda-setting intelligence, analysis and advice for the global fashion community.
We are seeking candidates with an analytical, meticulous but nimble approach to work, as well as a strong grasp of the fundamentals of journalism and a passion for the fashion and beauty business. In this role, you will learn to fuse creativity with accuracy and develop an exceptional sense of professionalism and journalistic integrity. Reporting to the Managing Editor and Head of Content Operations, you'll be supporting our global teams with article production, newsletter buildout, content syndication, image research, social media posts and copy proofing, while monitoring and writing about daily news. Candidates should be based in or willing to relocate to London.
During this 12-month apprenticeship, you will be accountable for:
- The smooth running of editorial operations in close collaboration with the Content Operations team
- The production of BoF's newsletters and briefings
- Timely and accurate production and formatting of articles in our in-house CMS system
- Image research and coordination with reporters and editors to identify the needs of articles
- Proofreading stories to ensure they are free of errors
- Supporting journalists build charts and identifying which formats work best depending on the data, also working closely with the Case Study production team
- Monitoring news wires and other sources throughout the daily news cycles for stories to cover on site
- Writing spot news and other content as needed
- Supporting journalists with research, including for BoF500
- Assisting with event-driven projects, such as fashion week, BoF500 and BoF VOICES
You are embarking on your journalism career with a passion for best-in-class publishing. With effective communication skills and an energetic can-do attitude, you perform well under pressure, have the ability to pivot your focus when necessary and meet tight deadlines with a strong sense of accountability. Outside of that, you will have the following skills that will help set you up for success:
- Excellent organisational skills, thorough and strong attention to detail
- Exceptional proofreading and copy editing skills
- Eagerness to work with various colleagues and editors, support their work and various miscellaneous needs of the newsroom
- A nose for relevant news stories across fashion and beauty
- Clear, concise and accurate writing
- A sense of curiosity and intellectual scepticism
- Openness toward and honesty regarding feedback
- A self-starting attitude, flexible and open to change
- A creative flair reflected in image selection and presentation, chart ideas
- An understanding of Photoshop
- Not required but encouraged is a sense of ambition for journalistic pursuits, an ear for compelling stories
- A willingness to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of a 24-hour news cycle
