The Specification Technologist plays a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and completeness of product specifications. This includes regularly updating product specs, issuing and maintaining relevant factory paperwork, and closely collaborating with the NPD team. The role also supports the Technical Manager and Technical Coordinator in ensuring product specifications are ready to be uploaded to various customer food portals.
This position is pivotal in maintaining high-quality standards and ensuring that food safety protocols are adhered to across the company. The Specification Technologist will work with all departments to continuously monitor and improve the quality and safety of products.
Specification Technologist\’s Key Responsibilities:
* Create and update product specifications in a clear and simple manner for use by production staff and managers.
* Maintain the Customer Specifications log and related electronic folders.
* Review and approve product packaging and artwork, playing a key role in the specification design process.
* Ensure all specifications are completed in line with customer requirements and expectations.
* Identify and resolve issues that arise during the specification process.
* Collaborate with the NPD team to generate new product specifications.
* Oversee multiple specification projects, prioritising and delivering them on time.
* Assist in bringing new and promotional products to market, ensuring they meet all necessary specifications.
* Prepare reports and provide statistical data when required.
* Develop and maintain technical databases and spreadsheets.
* Support the Technical Manager in preparing for customer visits and external audits.
* Actively participate in company health and safety campaigns and ensure personal and colleague safety at all times.
* Assist in conducting full traceability exercises for testing and audits.
* Help further develop and maintain the Quality Management System and internal audit processes.
Specification Technologist Person Specification:
* Minimum of 4 year of experience in a manufacturing environment.
* Knowledge of baking processes is advantageous.
* Confident in handling product specifications.
* Knowledge of at least 3 of the following retailer systems: Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Co-op, Morrisons, Aldi, Lidl, Premier/Mondelez (Hamilton Grant)
Specification Technologist Educational Requirements:
* GCSE-level education.
* HACCP Level 2 or above
* Strong written and spoken English skills.
* High numerical ability.
* A degree in Food Science, Nutrition, or a related science is an advantage.
