This is a pivotal role, offering the opportunity to shape and maintain an enterprise-wide risk management framework that safeguards clients, protects assets, and ensures the business operates within its defined risk appetite. This is a rare opportunity to take ownership of the risk function in a respected investment services business. You will have direct access to the Board, the authority to escalate issues, and the influence to shape risk strategy at the highest level. The Role The Risk Manager will be responsible for embedding a proactive, best-in-class approach to risk management across the business. You will maintain and develop the firm’s Risk Management Framework (RMF), ensure compliance with FCA regulatory obligations, and provide high-quality risk reporting to the Executive Committee, the Risk Management Committee (RMC), and regulators. Your work will span all material risk categories, from operational and conduct risk to cyber/IT and strategic risk and will involve both strategic oversight and hands-on delivery. Key Responsibilities Risk Framework & Oversight * support the Internal Capital and Risk Assessment (ICARA) process, and provide independent challenge to both senior management and the Board. * Maintain and enhance the firm’s RMF and Risk Appetite Statement. * Integrate risk management into strategic and operational planning, including product development and investment strategy oversight. * Ensure risk processes support the firm’s Wind-Down Plan, business continuity arrangements, and recovery/resolution triggers. Monitoring & Reporting * Maintain a comprehensive Risk Register with ownership, RAG ratings, and control assessments. * Monitor and escalate breaches of Key Risk Indicators (KRIs), tracking remediation actions. * Lead scenario analysis and stress testing to assess resilience, integrating findings into capital planning and ICARA. * Produce timely, accurate risk reports for senior stakeholders and regulators. Regulatory Engagement & Governance * Liaise with the FCA, auditors, and assurance providers on risk matters. * Provide independent challenge to first-line business units and support compliance oversight. * Ensure effective and timely escalation of material risk events. Culture & Training * Promote a strong, organisation-wide risk culture. * Deliver targeted risk awareness training to operational, advisory, and leadership teams. * Support SMF holders in understanding their risk responsibilities under SMCR. About You * Proven experience in a financial services risk management role (ideally wealth or investment management). * Risk-related qualification (IRM, FRM, CISI Risk in Financial Services, PRM, ICA Diploma). * In-depth understanding of FCA requirements, including MiFIDPRU, SYSC, and conduct risk. * Strong grasp of capital adequacy, liquidity risk, and ICARA methodology. * Excellent analytical, reporting, and communication skills at all levels. * Familiarity with CASS rules and operational resilience regulations is desirable.
