Receptionist - Role Overview

JA The Bruntsfield is entering an exciting period of transformation, with a significant refurbishment planned over the coming year.

As we continue to elevate our service standards and work towards Forbes Travel Guide expectations, our Reception team will play a vital role in creating exceptional first impressions and memorable guest experiences.

As a Receptionist, you will be the face of the hotel, delivering warm, genuine hospitality from the moment guests arrive.

You will ensure every interaction reflects professionalism, efficiency and personalised service whilst contributing to the welcoming atmosphere that defines JA The Bruntsfield.

Working closely with the Front Office & Revenue Manager, Reservations Coordinator and operational departments across the hotel, you will help ensure every guest enjoys a seamless and memorable stay.

Key Responsibilities

  • Guest Experience
  • Deliver friendly, professional and personalised welcomes and departures.
  • Provide exceptional service throughout the guest journey.
  • Support guests with enquiries, recommendations and requests.
  • Resolve guest concerns confidently and professionally.
  • Promote the facilities and services available within the hotel as well as showcasing knowledge of local area and Edinburgh tourism.
  • Front Office Operations
  • Complete check in and check out procedures accurately.
  • Manage guest accounts, billing and payments.
  • Maintain accurate guest profiles and reservations.
  • Support the achievement of IFG Mystery call standards.
  • Contribute to the hotel’s journey towards Forbes Travel Guide standards.
  • Communicate professionally with guests in person, over the telephone and across email communications.
  • Service Culture
  • Bring the JA Resorts & Hotels service philosophy to life by being Warm, Real and Fresh every day.
  • Participate in daily briefings, coaching sessions and continuous learning.
  • Support colleagues in creating a positive, welcoming and professional Front Office environment.
  • Collaboration
  • Work closely with Housekeeping, Food & Beverage, Maintenance and all hotel departments.
  • Support the Reservations Coordinator and wider Front Office team to ensure excellent communication and operational efficiency.

About You

  • Previous Reception or Front Office experience within hospitality.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Confident telephone manner and strong organisational skills.
  • Experience using PMS hotel systems.
  • Knowledge of Forbes Travel Guide standards would be advantageous but not essential.
  • A genuine passion for delivering outstanding hospitality.
