This is an excellent opportunity to join the British Museum's Money and Medals Department as an Assistant Collection Manager, supporting the care, access and use of one of the world's most significant numismatic collections. The role is central to the day‑to‑day management of the collection, ensuring objects are safely stored, moved, displayed and made available for loans, exhibitions, study rooms and research. Over the next year the focus will be on loan and exhibition activity, collections audits, storage and display projects, and support for gallery environments including the Enlightenment Gallery and Money Gallery. You will also play an active part in courier trips, study room supervision and behind‑the‑scenes projects that underpin public access and scholarship.

About You

You are practical, organised and detail‑focused, with a genuine interest in museum collections and material culture. You enjoy working with objects and are confident handling, moving and installing collections in line with best practice, while remaining calm and professional in busy or public‑facing environments. Ideally you have experience in a museum, gallery or collections environment, and are keen to develop your skills further through loan work, audits, gallery support and international courier activity.

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Support loans and exhibitions, including preparation, packing, installation and acting as a UK or international courier.
  • Assist with collections audits, documentation updates and location control, working closely with curatorial colleagues.
  • Support the display and ongoing maintenance of galleries, including the Enlightenment and Money Galleries, and assist with occasional out‑of‑hours event set‑ups.
  • Supply and supervise objects for the Study Room, ensuring safe access for staff and external researchers.
  • Work closely with the preventative conservation team to mitigate collection risks and apply best practice in handling and storage.
  • Contribute to storage and movement projects, ensuring the safety, security and long‑term preservation of the collection.
