British American Tobacco UK has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Technologist (Heating and Aerosol Mechanics, HAM) in Southampton
What are the key objectives and expectations from this role?
The Senior Technologist is responsible for completing assigned technical tasks using appropriate methodologies, equipment, and expertise.
Operating within the Heating and Aerosol Mechanics team, the role supports the successful delivery of development projects and contributes to the advancement of the R&D pipeline.
What is the direct impact of this role on the team or organization?
The Senior Technologist plays a meaningful role in advancing the Heating and Aerosol Mechanics team's contribution to the R&D pipeline.
By designing, executing, and validating product performance tests, the role ensures that HAM’s critical Tech Blocks are rigorously assessed against defined criteria.
Your key responsibilities will include
- Plan, develop, and complete verification testing for HAM’s critical Tech Blocks, scientific investigations, and product performance studies, ensuring alignment with BAT standards and project objectives.
- Develop and implement test methods and study plans to support HAM science, product performance assessments, root cause investigations, and technical problem solving.
- Analyze, manage, and present test data and findings to support evidence-based decision making, scientific understanding, and project recommendations.
- Collaborate with internal and external collaborators to ensure product compliance, quality, safety, robustness, and successful delivery of testing and scientific activities.
- Provide technical expertise and deliver project commitments by applying scientific principles, maintaining awareness of standard methodologies and compliance requirements, and ensuring timely execution of assigned activities across HAM’s project portfolio.
What are we looking for?
- Proven experience with Vapour and Heated Products (HP), including product construction, testing methodologies, and the planning and execution of comprehensive laboratory-based verification test programs.
- Strong ability to analyze and interpret test data, communicate findings effectively to both technical and non-technical collaborators, adapt to changing project requirements, and build effective working relationships across diverse teams.
- Able to lead a range of assigned development activities and propose best practise to fulfil assignment.
- Work with other technical teams to understand and characterise product performance with the assigned responsibilities within the team to improve the accuracy and quality of development test data, as well as the ability to identify and raise risks and issues in a timely and appropriate manor.
- Degree or equivalent experience qualification in Science/Engineering or related field.
