British American Tobacco UK has an exciting opportunity for a Product Regulatory Compliance Specialist in Southampton.

What are the key objectives and expectations from this role?

  • Provides operational and documentation support for product regulatory compliance activities.
  • Assists with data collection, evidence pack assembly, SDS generation, SOP/template updates, and first-line workflow/tool support.
  • Plays a key role in ensuring data quality, consistency, and smooth execution of compliance tasks.
  • Conduct work activities as allocated by line manager, using defined work practices or procedures by thorough understanding of principles and concepts.
  • Drive process improvement activities in the Product Compliance team and embedding best practices into business as usual.

What is the direct impact of this role on the team or organisation?

This role ensures BAT’s products for identified category achieve high-quality, on-time regulatory compliance across markets—reducing risk, accelerating portfolio delivery, and strengthening stakeholder confidence through consistent processes, robust documentation, and proactive regulatory leadership.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Work conducted using principles of ‘Best Practice’ to ensure that all Product Compliance activities are conducted in a robust manner with clear auditability and adherence to records management policies.
  • Ensure the confidentiality of all supplier information is maintained to ensure their trust, support and co-operation.
  • Manage the update of the information in the compliance database to ensure that all data and information is as current and as accurate as possible.
  • Perform periodic validation checks to confirm data accuracy.
  • Assemble and maintain documentation for CATEGORY regulatory submissions/notifications (checklists, evidence appendices, controlled records); ensure accuracy and traceability.
  • Support regulatory assessments by gathering data from systems, teams, and labs; perform basic checks against standards/templates.
  • Update SOPs, templates, and guidance materials; maintain document repositories and naming/version conventions.
  • Monitor workflow automations, dashboards, and trackers; perform first-line triage and elevate issues promptly.
  • Prepare stakeholder communications (assessment outcomes, FAQs, quick guides) and support training/onboarding for new processes/tools and track status, timelines, and metrics; produce routine reports on deliverables, adoption, and quality indicators while contributing ideas for small improvements, document benefits and feed into the PRC continuous improvement efforts.

What are we looking for?

Experience Required:

  • Previous relevant experience in compliance, quality, operations, or technical administration within a structured environment.
  • Experience with documentation control, data entry/validation, and stakeholder communication.
  • Advanced competence in Microsoft 365 and basic workflow/digital tools (SharePoint, Teams; Power Automate familiarity is a plus).

Technical / Functional / Leadership Skills Required:

  • Organisation, task tracking, deadline management, and meticulous attention to detail.
  • SOP/template adherence & maintenance, structured writing, version control.
  • Strong M365 skills; ability to learn workflow tools; comfort with dashboards and data quality checks.
  • Strong attention to detail, adherence to standards, and continuous improvement mindset.
  • Clear communicator, provision of timely updates; ability to create simple guides/job aids.
  • Team-oriented, responsive, and proactive in escalating risks or ambiguities.

Education / Professional Qualifications / Certifications Required:

  • Educated to a bachelor’s degree or higher, preferably in a scientific or legal field (e.g., Regulatory Affairs, Law, Chemistry, Life Sciences, Engineering, Public Health, Quality Management, or related discipline).

BENEFICIAL:

  • Comfort with digital tools, including data-driven reporting, workflow management, and emerging technologies that support regulatory operations.
  • Introductory courses in process improvement (Lean Yellow Belt), project coordination, or Power Platform fundamentals.
