Role Overview
Support the execution of in‑house pre‑clinical studies applying in‑vitro capabilities to assess BAT product safety, primarily toxicology studies.
The role produces preclinical data across all BAT product categories to meet regulatory obligations and substantiate health‑related claims.
Key Responsibilities
- Support in‑vitro regulatory (genetic) toxicology data generation, reporting and delivery to meet business unit goals.
- Ensure data are timely, fit for purpose and meet quality requirements (datastandards, RDRT) in alignment with the digital transformation roadmap.
- Maintain clear processes and provide technical leadership to foster continuous improvement.
- Author and deliver regulatory & science reports, publications and conference materials.
- Apply competitor landscape analysis in preclinical science and manage project planning.
- Maintain laboratory infrastructure and protocols for the pre‑clinical team.
- Follow best‑practice procedures (HTA; GLP & EH&S).
- Execute tasks in accordance with BAT Research and Science strategy and the code of conduct.
Requirements
- Experience in in‑vitro regulatory toxicology, including Neutral Red, Ames and micronucleus assay development.
- Knowledge of bioinformatics tools for processing biological data with appropriate quality standards.
- Experience in controlled quality‑assured environments (GIVIMP/Gx P).
- Ability to author technical reports, conference materials and peer‑reviewed manuscripts.
- Proficient with Word, Excel, Power Point and data‑analysis packages.
- Willingness to learn new techniques across in‑vitro biology and toxicology.
- Technical / Functional / Leadership Skills
- Execution of in‑vitro studies.
- Study design, analysis and data interpretation.
- Clear scientific communication to technical and non‑technical audiences.
- Desire to develop technical skills.
Education / Qualifications
- Degree in Biological Sciences or related field.
- Beneficial
- Practical experience in mammalian cell culture.
- Development and application of 96‑well cellular assays (ELISA, MTT, NRU or similar).
- Knowledge of BAT products or aerosol testing.
