British American Tobacco United Kingdom has an exciting opportunity for a Senior UX/UI Designer – Embedded Devices (HMI) in London / South Hampton. As a Senior UX/UI Designer – Embedded Devices (HMI) within the Device UX Design team, you will lead the design of intuitive and visually compelling interfaces for our small smart electronic devices, including constrained embedded interfaces. Please note: This role focuses on embedded/device UX. Applications with only web or mobile app experience will not be considered.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Lead the design of digital, virtual and physical UI components for small-form‑factor devices, ensuring experiences meet user and product requirements.
- Produce wireframes, visual designs and prototypes, tailoring them for constrained hardware environments, animations and mockups that clearly express interaction intent.
- Support user research and usability studies, including testing on physical device prototypes, and use insights to iterate and refine the design.
- Partner with developers and firmware/hardware engineers to ensure UI concepts translate into robust, high‑quality implementations.
- Maintain alignment with key stakeholders through clear communication, documentation and regular updates.
- Engage across industrial design, brand, research and engineering teams, ensuring device UX integration throughout the 4D product development process.
What are we looking for:
- Bachelor’s degree in Interaction Design, Graphic Design or a related field.
- 8+ years of experience in UI/UX design, with a focus on embedded or physical device UX, ideally within consumer electronics or small digital devices.
- Experience collaborating with hardware and firmware teams, developers, product managers and other cross‑functional partners.
- High proficiency with Figma, Adobe After Effects, Illustrator and prototyping tools such as Protopie or equivalents.
- Ability to build strong partnerships across teams and influence decision‑making.
- Solid project management skills with experience juggling multiple workstreams.
- Strong portfolio showcasing visually appealing, user‑friendly interfaces, with a focus on device‑based UX and clear interaction design thinking.
