British American Tobacco has an exciting opportunity for a CatMan Manager in London, UK.

The role is responsible for leading the CatMan team in ensuring successful deployment of best practise category management based on the development of robust and actionable insights.

To support the Head of Customer Deployment to deliver key account ambitions through the provision of insights driven category strategies and tactics aligned to shopper/consumer behaviour and key customer strategies.

Work with key category and deployment teams to support the execution of brand plans to ensure growth strategies are implementable at the point of purchase

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Lead the Category Vision process to ensure that strategies and tactics are relevant and aligned to the channel and customer
  • As Category Controller you will lead the adaption, evolution and execution of the category vision to key customers
  • Deliver functional best practise in all category initiatives through leveraging market, shopper and customer insights and identifying category growth opportunities
  • Develop insight led category initiatives across channels to develop base category sales within key customers across the key category levers: Product, Price, Place, Promotion, Point of Sale, Mix & Assortment
  • Lead customer range reviews/space planning projects which deliver “objective” growth opportunities for BAT and its key customers
  • Development of Category Rationales/Proposition to support the brand/account management objectives
  • Conduct Promotional Evaluations to support and shape the promotional strategy
  • Creation of impactful compelling selling propositions
  • Deliver timely and accurate market tracking reports utilising most relevant data sources for individual customers and internal teams
  • Help manage the insight budget, make recommendations on most efficient use of spend across category, shopper & consumer continuous & ad hoc data/research
  • Develop and maintain positive and mutually beneficial relationships with key customers (buyers & merchandisers) establishing preferred ways of working & communications from the outset
  • Be the voice of the customer, category and shopper within the BAT business and play a supporting role in helping to define the long-term strategic category agenda with customers
  • Act as a conduit between Brand Marketing and Account Management to ensure brand activity is relevant to the needs of each channel and customer
  • Fully understand the retailer strategies working alongside the relevant account managers/directors communicating this back clearly and concisely to the BAT internal teams
  • Build and manage strong working relationships externally with marketing support agencies and data providers

What are we looking for:

Experience Required

  • Experience in establishing and developing mutually beneficial category relationships with key strategic retail partners through strong shopper and category insight which influences their range and space planning and category activation
  • Facilitation of cross functional departments both internally and in key customers
  • Strong understanding of UK grocery trade dynamics
  • Proficient in data interrogation and the use of recognised category methodologies
  • The ability to generate and blend insights from using a variety of data sources
  • Identify and quantify commercial growth opportunities from Insights

Technical / Functional / Leadership Skills Required

  • Category management/Customer management experience essential
  • Competent in excel and PowerPoint and broad variety of FMCG data sources
  • Experience of Category management tools preferable but not essential

Education / Qualifications / Certifications Required

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Demonstrable skills and experience within a Category Development role within an FMCG, blue chip environment.

BENEFICIAL

  • Experience in account & customer management within FMCG grocery environment
  • Understanding of brand building, tracking, awareness and media strategy
  • Understanding of individual customer strategy at a macro level
  • Understanding of store operations with a view to driving successful implementation of category strategies & tactics
