Reed Accountancy Not for Profit have been appointed recruitment partners with The British Academy, the UK's national academy for the humanities and social sciences. The Academy is a registered charity whose mission is to deepen understanding of people, societies and cultures, enabling everyone to learn, progress and prosper. As the Financial Accountant, you will be responsible for overseeing the balance sheet controls and contributing to the development and implementation of financial processes and policies. You will work closely with a dedicated team, reporting directly to the Head of Finance, and supervising a transactional finance team of two.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Conduct thorough balance sheet reconciliations and monthly reviews of debtors and creditors.
  • Manage direct bank payments and credit card transaction integrations.
  • Support the annual audit process and preparation of year-end accounts.
  • Lead and support the finance officers responsible for purchase ledger and income.
  • Monitor and resolve integrations into the finance system.
  • Act as a deputy to the Head of Finance, ensuring compliance and optimal financial practices.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Team management experience, offering coaching and support.
  • Proven experience in financial management and accounting.
  • Good working knowledge of income and accounts payable with PO system experience.
  • Finance experience within a charity with exposure to restricted & unrestricted funds (desirable).
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills for managing both internal and external stakeholders.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving and decision-making.

Salary: £43225 per annum

Pension: 15% employer, 6% employee contributions, rising to 19% employer, 6% employer after first three years.

Flexible hybrid working: (two days per week in the office).
