About the Apprenticeship Scheme:
Do you want to be trained to operate a wide range of equipment from fork-lift trucks to computer controlled cranes costing millions of pounds? Do you want to work for a company that’s known for giving people great careers? If you do then this is the Apprenticeship for you. Since 1991, The Bristol Port Company has invested over £600 million in equipment and people to create one of the country’s most technically advanced ports. We are now looking for motivated people to join our Apprenticeship Scheme. You’ll start on a basic salary of £19,104 per annum, rising to over £35,600 after successful completion of a two-year apprenticeship and a one-year training programme.
You Will Learn:
- How to handle cargo in a modern port environment
- How to operate modern cargo handling equipment from cranes to front end loaders and fork-lift trucks
- To work effectively in a strong team
- How to develop your team building skills to equip you for a successful career at the Port
- Full safety training and supervision will be given and we’ll also give you all the safety equipment you need
You:
- You MUST have a driving licence, or be working towards one
- You’ll have a good head for heights, be physically fit and have good hand-eye coordination
- You must enjoy working as part of a team
- You will be flexible about working shifts including night shifts on any day including weekends
- You will be confident at using computers as much of our equipment is computer controlled
- You will also have good numeracy and literacy skills
Qualifications:
You will be able to gain some or all of these qualifications:
- NVQ Level 2 in Port Operations
- NVQ Level 3 in Supervisory Management
