We are seeking a skilled and motivated Processing Systems Engineer to join our Processing Systems team. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting and enhancing our ATM switching platform and related payment applications, ensuring high availability, performance, and compliance with agreed service levels. Working closely with internal stakeholders and third‑party suppliers, you'll help deliver new features, resolve technical issues, and contribute to the ongoing improvement of critical payment systems that support a growing business. This is a hands‑on technical role offering exposure to complex payment technologies, supplier collaboration, and opportunities to develop specialist expertise within the ATM and payments environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage, support, and enhance the ATM switching platform and related payment applications
- Implement new features and system improvements in line with business requirements (including out‑of‑hours support where required)
- Collaborate with internal teams and external suppliers to define requirements, test deliverables, and deploy changes
- Provide operational support to ensure platform performance meets agreed SLAs
- Carry out scheduled maintenance to ensure system stability and availability
- Develop and maintain scripts (SQL, batch jobs, or software) to support system functionality
- Prepare and maintain ATM downloads, configurations, and screen updates
- Act as a technical point of contact for internal stakeholders, supporting excellent customer service
- Identify areas for improvement and contribute to continuous enhancement initiatives
- Participate in an out‑of‑hours on‑call rota
- Maintain accurate technical documentation
- Support the training and integration of new and existing team members
- Ensure compliance with GDPR and Information Security standards (ISO 27001)
- Travel within the UK or internationally on occasion, as required
Skills, Qualifications & Experience (Essential)
- Minimum of five GCSEs (A*-C or equivalent), including English and Maths
- Degree in IT, Computer Science, or a related technology discipline
- Experience working with external suppliers (phone, video conferencing, or in person)
- Professional and confident communication skills
Desirable
- Experience with payment switch technologies (e.g. Authentic, Postilion, BASE24, Tango)
- Knowledge of ATM hardware and software
- Experience with NDC downloads and HTML
- Understanding of payment protocols such as Visa, Mastercard, ISO8583, LINK, or similar
- Experience supporting Windows-based environments
- Working knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server or equivalent databases
