What You'll Do
BCG is looking for a Senior Director level Enterprise Architect to pioneer the modernisation of our integration and GenAI architecture, giving BCGers, clients and AI agents governed, contract-based access to our systems and data, 24x7, 365 days of the year. The heart of this role is to define the architecture of the integration layer, the contracts, gateways and access models that connect applications, services and AI agents to our systems, and the GenAI platform that sits on top of it. You will be an expert in API and event-driven integration patterns, agent-to-tool protocols, and the governance of foundation models and AI agents in an enterprise setting. You will have considerable experience designing scaled, secure, governed platforms for a global company. You'll bring teams together to leverage the scale of BCG by defining a shared, contract-first integration architecture and the guardrails that let AI agents operate safely within it. Driving a modern, enterprise-grade approach to API and agent governance, you'll play a leading role in the transformation of BCG IT.
What You'll Bring
- 10+ years' experience leading and owning the enterprise architecture of integration and/or AI platforms at global scale.
- Your experience will include multiple successful examples of autonomously planning a global integration and GenAI estate across requirements, technology, cost, value and rationalisation.
- Leading and agreeing investment decisions at a portfolio and individual technology level.
- Leading the development of architectures across API and event-driven integration (e.g. API gateways, service contracts, event streaming) and enterprise GenAI (e.g. foundation model gateways, agent-to-tool protocols such as MCP and A2A, agent identity and guardrails).
- You must have deep, hands-on experience with at least one API/integration gateway platform (e.g. Kong, Apigee, MuleSoft) and direct experience architecting enterprise use of foundation models (e.g. OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Mistral).
- Leading decisions through to a conclusion in a highly matrixed organisation with minimal or no supervision.
- Preparing materials for, and presenting at, senior levels including C-Suite.
Who You'll Work With
You will be reporting to Ben Connolly, BCG CTO, and work in the central Enterprise Architecture team. This is an individual contributor role with an expectation of strongly influencing architects working across the Integration and GenAI domains. This role owns enterprise architecture for the integration (contract) layer and the enterprise GenAI platform; it partners closely with, but does not own, the architecture for Identity, Network, Devices and Hosting, which sit with other Enterprise Architecture leads.
Additional info
At BCG, our people and relationships are at the heart of everything we do. We believe that in-person collaboration plays an important role in our culture, mentorship, and professional development. For this role, you will generally be expected to work from a BCG office or in person with clients on a regular basis (typically around 50% of working time), depending on business needs and in line with local policies and practices. We aim to provide a dynamic and collaborative environment that fosters connection and teamwork.
You're Good at:
- Energising our people to set a vision and see the possibilities of a contract-first integration layer and a governed GenAI platform, i.e. API and event-driven architecture, agent-to-tool protocols such as MCP and A2A, and a single enterprise front door for foundation models.
- Finding great answers to complex and ambiguous questions, and connecting and collaborating across teams to develop their architectures, especially to meet demanding non-functional requirements around security, governance and scale.
- Rolling up your sleeves and "doing", pioneering the way forward and bringing others along with you.
- You produce high-quality Enterprise Architecture arguments and supporting materials.
- You are adept at agreeing these at different levels in the organisation.
- You must be a brilliant storyteller.
- Influencing and collaborating with others, especially solution architects and technical leaders across the organisation.
- You will be passionate about developing others through mentoring, coaching, and sharing knowledge.
- You will be enthused by technology.
- Knowledgeable and conversant with modern integration and AI paradigms, and always curious and driven to learn more and apply this to your work.
- You will demonstrate expertise in API and event-driven architecture, agent and tool-calling protocols, foundation model gateways, and the guardrails and evaluation gates needed to run GenAI safely at enterprise scale.
- Optimising your own role and delivering results.
- You understand that architecture is part of a value stream where we need to play our part in being efficient to help increase velocity and reduce risk across the architecture team and the teams we work with.
