Overview

Join a passionate and creative Communications team here at Boots. As part of The Boots Group, we bring external and internal storytelling, campaigns and events to life. This wellness role covers everything from strategic PR campaigns, earned media and influencer relations, press release and asset development, stakeholder management and internal communications. If you love the wellness industry, we’d love to hear from you.

What you’ll be doing

We’re looking for a creative, outcomes‑driven Assistant Communications Manager to shape how Boots shows up in wellness – helping to secure high‑quality press coverage, routed in strong storytelling, while delivering engaging internal communications that keep colleagues connected. Working as part of the Communications team, you will lead earned‑first external storytelling and pair this with thoughtful colleague‑focused content, contributing to PR campaigns, events and day‑to‑day activity that champion everyday healthy habits and put trusted expertise at the heart of our messages. You’ll work closely with teams across the business, like marketing, social and influencer, to ensure our stories are consistent, accurate and aligned to our wider strategic priorities.

Key responsibilities

  • Support the development and execution of integrated communication plans across external and internal channels that align with Boots strategic priorities.
  • Create, draft and sell in news stories and media alerts to media that result in positive editorial coverage for Boots.
  • Maintain and grow media relationships with key journalists in the health and wellness space.
  • Develop engaging, high‑quality content and assets to support wellness storytelling including press releases, media alerts, video content, infographics, supporting assets and internal articles.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with journalists, influencers and key stakeholders to secure high‑quality media coverage.
  • Stakeholder management, both internally and externally.
  • Respond to incoming media enquiries, including coordinating product samples and information requests.
  • Support the organisation and delivery of events, wellness product launches and press briefings.
  • Work collaboratively with marketing, social, digital, category, and our internal comms and content teams to ensure consistent content creation and storytelling and seamless cross‑channel activation.
  • Monitor performance across external and internal channels. This includes tracking coverage and results.
  • Stay up to date with wellness trends, competitor activity and cultural conversations/relevant news to inform proactive storytelling, news angles and reactive opportunities.
  • Support the Internal Communications team with core channel delivery as needed, including weekly newsletters, The Edit/Healthcare Edit/Huddle Edit, Boots Intranet, Viva Engage posts and reporting.

What you’ll need to have

  • Degree in PR, Communications, Journalism, Marketing or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • Previous experience in PR, ideally within the consumer health or FMCG sectors.
  • Clear communicator, with the ability to draft, edit and adapt content for different audiences at pace and to a high standard.
  • Innovative thinker with a passion for storytelling, able to translate complex or sensitive information into clear, engaging and accessible content for colleagues and customers.
  • You can engage with media, creators and stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong proficiency in day‑to‑day communication tools (e.g. Microsoft 365, Teams, SharePoint, Viva Engage).
  • Confidence using or learning tools such as Poppulo, basic web editing and simple video or design tools, with a focus on producing clear, high quality content rather than technical complexity.

Rewards designed for you

  • Boots Retirement Savings Plan.
  • Discretionary annual bonus.
  • Generous employee discounts.
  • Enhanced maternity/paternity/adoption leave pay and gift card for anyone expecting or adopting a child.
  • Flexible benefits scheme including option to buy additional holiday, discounted gym membership, life assurance, activity passes and much more.
  • Access to free, 24/7 counselling and support through TELUS Health, our Employee Assistance Programme.
