Boeing Defence UK is offering an opportunity to join their dynamic Safety Management System (SMS) team dedicated to ensuring the safety of our Products and Services. The successful candidate will become part of a large, multidisciplinary SMS team comprising approximately 20 experienced professionals, specifically supporting the Boeing Defence Programmes.
The SMS Safety Promotion and Training Lead is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing safety promotion and training strategies within the BDUK and aligned with the Boeing Enterprise SMS. This role ensures that all employees are knowledgeable about safety policies and procedures to foster a strong positive safety culture.
The role has the following key responsibilities:
- Act as the BDUK SMS subject matter expert on SMS safety promotion and training.
- Manage the interface with the Boeing Enterprise SMS team and other stakeholders for Safety promotion and training.
- Develop and monitor SMS culture metrics to assess and evaluate BDUK positive safety culture development and sustainment.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of safety promotion and training initiatives and any associated improvement actions.
- Maintain an SMS continuous improvement plan for the Safety Promotion and Training pillar of the BDUK SMS.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regulatory requirements, industry standards, and best practices related to safety culture and SMS promotion and training.
- Lead the development and implementation of comprehensive safety promotion strategies and plans, where appropriate aligned with corporate communications, to enhance safety awareness across the BDUK.
- Promote a positive safety culture through communication campaigns, workshops, and safety events.
- Lead on SMS and Positive Safety Culture including culture surveys across the organization.
- Support Programme SMS Leads to facilitate effective tiered safety communication and promotion strategies across their programmes.
- Lead Safety recognition internally within BDUK and elevated recognition with the Boeing Enterprise Safety Promotion team.
- Lead the design and delivery of SMS and Human Factors Training across BDUK.
- Ensure HF and SMS training delivery standards are maintained
- Lead the development and delivery of specialist SMS training in collaboration with the relevant SMS specialists to support SMS team competency
- Maintain training records, reports, and documentation
Travel within the UK is expected and some overseas travel may be required.
Essential competencies and experience:
- Eligibility for UK SC Security Clearance: Applicants must be able to obtain the necessary clearance.
- Significant experience in safety promotion and training in an aviation SMS context.
- Aviation operational experience in engineering, maintenance or flying.
- Experience in the application of current MAA and/or other regulatory safety requirements in an SMS context.
- Proficiency in using learning management systems (LMS) and training software.
- Ability to analyze training effectiveness and implement continuous improvement measures.
- Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to influence and engage employees at all levels to promote safety culture.
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
- Demonstrate leading successful interactions working across multi-discipline teams.
- The role will have significant UK MoD customer, suppliers and wider Boeing interfaces and, therefore, a person who is diplomatic whilst being strong-minded is essential.
- Formal instructional or mentoring qualifications e.g. Level 3 CTLL or ILM L5 mentoring.
Desirable competencies
- Appropriate instructional and course design and delivery experience, ideally in HF or SMS training disciplines.
- HF or CRM Examiner or Instructor experience.
- Formal Safety Management Systems training and experience
- Experience using the MoD’s ASIMS/DASORs or equivalent safety reporting systems.
- Occurrence Safety Investigator experience.
- Experience in the practical application of a Just Culture model.
This role is on-site position with flexible working hours.
