Boeing Defence UK (BDUK) System Safety and Environmental Engineering Team is seeking a new System Safety Engineer to join our collaborative environment, which is dedicated to ensuring the safety of complex systems. As a BDUK System Safety Engineer, you will play a key role in supporting our sustainment programmes for UK defence, applying rigorous safety engineering tasks to Boeing products and services that are critical to our national security. This role is for a detail‑oriented professional who excels at developing robust safety arguments and thrives on technical challenges.
In this role, you will:
- Utilise industry‑leading tools and techniques for system safety and hazard analysis to define safety requirements that meet demanding regulatory standards.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams and external stakeholders to manage safety throughout the product and service lifecycle.
- Develop robust safety arguments and draft safety cases for assurance and certification activities using Goal Structuring Notation (GSN) or Claims Argument Evidence (CAE).
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non‑US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement.
- A background in a safety‑critical and regulated environment (e.g., aerospace, defence, rail, automotive).
- Sound knowledge of common safety standards (e.g., Def Stan 00‑056, MIL‑STD‑882E).
- UK National status is required, and candidates must be eligible for SC clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Training in the use of formal safety analysis methods Functional Hazard Assessment (FHA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) and Bowtie analysis.
- The ability to plan and execute tasks to achieve timescales and costs.
- Good interpersonal skills to ensure effective team working and an appropriate working relationship with external customers.
- Proficiency in the use of general office IT tools, such as MS Word, Excel, and Powerpoint.
- Strong technical communication skills.

Work Authorization
This requisition is for a locally hired position in the UK. Candidates must have current legal authorisation to work immediately in the United Kingdom. Security Clearance
This position requires the ability to obtain United Kingdom Security Check. The successful candidate will be expected to undergo a Security Clearance Process, which will require 5 years uninterrupted residency in the UK prior to applying.
