The Principal Configuration Engineer is responsible for establishing, maintaining and reporting the product’s configuration throughout its lifecycle, supporting the conformity and certification processes.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Generate product definition by interpreting engineering documentation and associated change authorities into a format used to drive the extended enterprise / Supply Chain.
  • Standardise engineering data to ensure compliance with engineering standards documentation.
  • Release Engineering Datasets in various PDM systems.
  • Produce Engineering Bills of Material and ensure the product’s configuration information is maintained in accordance with Configuration Management rules throughout its lifecycle.
  • Work with customers and internal functions to provide documented data‑management solutions for design & build and build‑to‑print programmes.
  • Provide guidance to IPDT functions on advance material ordering.
  • Support the reconciliation process by liaising with Design, Methods, Quality and the customer to resolve and report disconnects between the Engineering Bill of Material for each component deliverable and the Quality As‑Built Conformity List.
  • Represent the department at meetings and presentations to provide technical leadership and expert advice on configuration issues to both internal and external suppliers and customers.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to staff members within Configuration Management.

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum of a Degree in an engineering‑related subject and at least 4 years of relevant configuration engineering experience, or an HNC in an engineering‑related subject and at least 7 years of relevant experience.
  • Clear and fluent understanding of Configuration Management rules and associated CM business processes.
  • Working knowledge of the company and customer systems associated with product configuration.
  • Excellent communication skills, articulate and concise.
  • Team player at site and group level.
  • Sound IT systems experience.
