Boeing Defence UK (BDUK) is a subsidiary of the Boeing Company and currently employs over 2100 people in the UK. BDUK is responsible for delivering several exciting contracts to our UK defence customers including many training services. As the company grows, we have a need to expand our current Training Capability in the Vertical Lift domain. This is an exciting time to join a growing team of training experts.

This role is for a Maintenance Instructor (trade agnostic) based at the Apache Academy, Wattisham Flying Station. Reporting to the Training Delivery Manager, the role will require the individual to become an essential member of a team of nine maintenance training instructors. The team deliver Apache maintenance training to the MoD customer and BDUK MRO technicians across a wide spectrum of engineering ability: from basic technician, through to engineering manager. You will be working in a highly regulated and safety conscious environment and as such everything you do will be to the highest standard and always in compliance with company procedures and applicable regulations.

The Maintenance Instructor is required to deliver theory and practical maintenance training as a contracted deliverable for the Rotary Wing Enterprise contract. You will be required to deliver training at two sites: Wattisham and Middle Wallop.

Responsibilities:
  • Deliver theory and practical training in both aircraft and avionic trade subjects.
  • Deliver practical training across aircraft and avionic trade disciplines.
  • Carry out the duties of course co-ordinator.
  • Assist BDUK Training and Multimedia Services team in the development and review of contracted courseware.
  • Have a working knowledge of the ISO 9001 and DSAT standards relevant to their work environments.
  • Carry out corrective maintenance as required on the Maintenance Training Equipment.
  • Demonstrate Boeing Values and Behaviours.
  • Support internal and external audits as required.
  • Participate in Continuous Improvement projects and lead activities when required.

In order to achieve the contracted level of service to the customer this position requires flexibility of approach within your areas of responsibility, to ensure all necessary tasks are completed. On occasions this may require a variation to normal working routine, which could include evening, or weekend working. Delivery is primarily at the Wattisham Apache Academy in Suffolk, but there is a regular requirement to deliver training to BDUK’s Operations team at the Middle Wallop Apache Academy in Hampshire.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
  • IT proficient specifically Microsoft Office 365 applications.
  • The ability to obtain UK Security Clearance.
Preferred Skills/Qualifications:
  • Significant experience as an aircraft or avionic technician working on vertical lift platforms, ideally with extensive experience on Apache.
  • Minimum Level 3 Education & Training qualification.
  • Experience of instruction/teaching, ideally on military aircraft.
  • Ability and willingness to cross-train to the opposite trade discipline in order to teach subjects and deliver practical training ordinarily delivered by the other trade.
  • The ability to communicate with technical personnel from multiple skill areas, cultures and functions.
  • Skill and ability to collect, organise and analyse data; summarise findings; develop conclusions and recommendations from appropriate data sources.
