We are seeking to appoint a resident Boarding Assistant on a fixed term contract. You would be living in shared accommodation with up to three other graduates, within our stunning listed building, set against the stunning backdrop of Bath's UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The post requires the successful candidate to assist with the day to day running of the boarding houses, help to organise, run and staff the Weekend Programme, to help with administrative tasks involved in boarding and to play a complementary and supporting role to students in class by encouraging pupils in their learning and the acquisition of skills. This is a residential post and can be a demanding role including morning, evening and weekend duties in boarding. You will be given 24 hours off duty per week, along with additional time off when not on duty in House.
The successful candidate will be a team player with a proven track record of being proactive, highly organised and able to act on their own initiative. They will have to demonstrate a fair but firm approach and must enjoy working with young people and have energy, enthusiasm and commitment to the nature of working in a boarding school. This role would be ideal for a graduate wishing to gain experience in a boarding school environment.
Key Responsibilities:- Support for Boarders
- Liaise with the Director of Boarding in ensuring, for each boarder, the provision of a comfortable living environment and to ensure that all boarders' needs are addressed.
- Work with the Boarding Team to maintain a healthy routine of life for each boarder, and to make sure that standards of cleanliness and personal hygiene are carried out.
- To be on duty in the Boarding House at times on a rota system including some overnight duties.
- Be aware of and respond to the needs of individual boarders, including those from different cultural backgrounds, and to be aware of the changing needs of girls as they develop.
- Liaise with the Deputy Housemistress to ensure that boarders have access to and participate in a lively programme of leisure activities in the evenings and at weekends.
- Work with the Deputy Housemistress to organise, run and staff the Weekend Programme.
- Be on the medical escort rota once a week for taking boarders to and from emergency and scheduled appointments.
- Support for parents of boarders
- Work with the Director of Boarding in building a good relationship with parents by liaising with them over matters of welfare, travel and trips.
- To be prepared to respond to the concerns of parents at any time, and in particular to respond to emails and carry the duty House phone at relevant times in the evening and at weekends.
- Work with the Director of Boarding to ensure that the House is ready and welcoming for the returning and new parents and boarders prior to start of each term and seeing boarders safely offsite at exeats, half terms and end of terms.
