The predicted salary is between 28 - 42 £ per hour.
The Dance Science Lecturer will be a key part of the BA (Hons) in Classical Ballet and Dance Performance teaching team. They will have oversight of the dance science and healthy dancer curriculum that students study as part of the degree programme. They will endeavour to personalise learning for students, ensuring all students make good progress. They will be excited at the prospect of shaping the next generation of ballet dancers, engendering an understanding of good physical, mental and professional health. They will share their expert subject knowledge with our students, bringing learning alive and helping students to enjoy learning.
Applicants must hold PGCE, PGCertHE or QTS attained through a University teacher training provider.
CONTRACT TERMS
- Contract: Fixed-term, self-employed contract from September 2026 to April 2027
- Salary: £35 per hour (teaching), £22 per hour (marking)
- Hours: Teaching is scheduled on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings (8:30am – 11:30am or 8:30am – 12:30pm). Please note there is no flexibility as to when teaching can be delivered, so applicants should ensure they are available for the requested mornings.

This approach means that staff must consider, at all times, what is in the best interests of the child. Additionally, the following is expected of all staff:
- To uphold the School’s policies relating to safeguarding and child protection, behaviour, health and safety and all other relevant policies
- To promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young persons for whom you are responsible and come into contact with
- To report any safeguarding concerns using the relevant channels, such as informing the Designated Safeguarding Lead, in a timely and appropriate manner
- To ensure full compliance with all statutory regulations, particularly the most recent Keeping Children Safe in Education, and to communicate concerns to the Designated Safeguarding Lead, other relevant staff of The Royal Ballet School or local children’s services as appropriate.
MAIN DUTIES
- To teach The Healthy Dancer and The Thinking Dancer modules for the degree programme
- To plan lectures in which subject content is presented appropriately for learners aged 16-19
- To personalise learning for students with SEND, additional learning needs or for whom English is a second language, under the guidance of the Lead Teacher for SEND and the Lead Teacher for EAL
- To support students in completing assignments for the degree programme
- To mark and assess assignments as directed by the Head of Degree
- To liaise with the Head of Degree, Head of Healthcare and Performance Support, and academic staff to ensure lectures cover the course content
- To liaise with members of the wider healthcare team who will deliver some teaching content, and maintain knowledge of the content students have covered
- To respond to all student and parental queries in relation to the assigned modules
- To contribute to the development of departmental administration including schemes of learning, lesson plans, lesson resources and the parent newsletter
- To contribute to student reports as required
- To maintain high levels of subject knowledge, and complete independently led CPD to ensure awareness of current and emerging research within the field.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) attained from PGCE or PGCertHE
- Degree in Dance, PE or dance related field at 2:1 or above
- Experience of teaching dance science content to learners at degree or 16-19
- Breadth of knowledge in relation to dance science, including nutrition, anatomy and physiology, psychology, biomechanics and approaches to strength and conditioning
- Outstanding teaching ability with a genuine passion for sharing learning with students
- A reflective practitioner committed to striving for excellence and ensuring learning is engaging
- Expert understanding of pedagogy for students aged 16-19, with the ability to scaffold degree-level learning so that all students can successfully acquire knowledge and complete assignments.
- Master’s degree in related field
- Evidence of recent teaching and learning CPD
- Experience of assessing at degree level.
