Are you a cat lover with a keen eye for details, looking for a chance to gain practical experience and skills? Blue Cross is looking for enthusiastic and caring people with an interest in cat welfare, to help us look after our cats until they find loving new homes.

Maintaining the wellbeing of cats in our care is our priority and our cat carer volunteers are integral to this. You will be meeting the daily needs of cats and helping them on their way to finding loving new homes. We would love you to join us and help us help more pets in need.

What you will be doing:

  • Assisting with daily tasks in the cattery including cleaning pens, corridors, windows and emptying litter trays
  • Ensuring the cats have clean bedding by operating the laundry facility
  • Day-to-day care of the cats which may include feeding, grooming and socialising
  • Spending time with the cats, stroking, playing with them and getting them used to being handled by people
  • Monitoring each animal's health, welfare and behaviour, observing risk assessments, writing up observation notes and informing team members where appropriate

The skills you need:

  • Regular commitment and reliability
  • Experience of owning or caring for cats and/or an interest in their welfare
  • Ability to work in a team or alone
  • A willingness and ability to learn and follow instructions quickly and accurately including Blue Cross procedures
  • A willingness to undergo training (including on-line training) and assessments
