Dispensary Assistant (Friday between 12.00pm and 3.00pm)

When sick pets need treatment, our animal hospital teams ensure they get all the care they need. Our dispensary team plays a crucial role in ensuring medicines and equipment are readily available for vets and nurses to prescribe to our pet patients. Our volunteer Dispensary Assistants help organise our stock, keep the medicines and equipment in good order, and ensure support for our reception team in getting prescriptions to our clients. You need to be organised and methodical for this key role. We\'ll provide all the training you need, and you\'ll know that your time and skills will be helping pets make a speedy recovery.

Blue Cross has four animal hospitals, helping over 30,000 pets a year whose owners can’t afford private veterinary fees. We are looking for a dispensary assistant volunteer to support our busy clinical teams in organising and maintaining our stock and ensuring our dispensary area is kept neat and well organised.

What you will be doing

  • Checking that deliveries of veterinary supplies are accurate
  • Counting and recording stock levels
  • Unpacking goods and putting them in storage
  • Logging items onto the computer
  • Rotating stock to ensure medications with the shortest expiry date are used first
  • Helping with stock audits

The skills you need

  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Willingness to learn and follow Blue Cross procedures
  • Ability to work in a team or alone
  • Good communication skills

What\'s in it for you

  • You’ll gain a variety of experience for your CV
  • You’ll learn new skills such as customer service, communication and team working
  • You’ll meet new people and get involved with your local community
  • We’ll provide you with all the training you need including access to our range of e-learning courses
  • You\'ll be part of an amazing, supportive team

We will provide significant training for this rewarding but in-depth role. Due to this, it\'s therefore more suited to individuals looking for a longer-term volunteering role. We would be ideally looking for a regular commitment of one weekday shift per week. You need to be 18 or over for this role.

Blue Cross holds inclusion as a core organisational value. We positively encourage applications from eligible volunteers regardless of sex, race, disability, age, sexual orientation, gender status, religion or belief, marital status or pregnancy and maternity. We actively embrace our differences and know that it is our differences that make us unique. You are very welcome at Blue Cross, without the need to hide any part of who you are.
