Where you will be based: Community
Why we want you: Sick, injured and homeless pets have relied on Blue Cross for help since 1897. Each year, thousands of dogs, cats, small pets and horses turn to the charity’s animal hospitals, clinics and rehoming services for treatment and support. Our partnership with Food Banks provides practical support to pet owners during financial crises, by distributing donated pet food via food banks in the local community. These food banks can be the key to helping owners to keep their much-loved pets. Our Volunteer Drivers ensure the food banks get a consistent supply of pet food to give out, which helps to keep pets with their families. We would love you to join us and help us help more pets and people in need.
What you will be doing:
- Collecting donations of pet food and other pet items from collection points
- Delivery of pet food and pet items to food bank sites
- Liaising with the team members at collection points and at the food banks
The skills you need:
- Full, current driving licence
- Use of a suitable vehicle to make the collections and deliveries (not needed if using Blue Cross vehicle)
- Used to dealing with a variety of people from different backgrounds
- Competent, team player and self-motivated
- Friendly and with a professional approach
What's in it for you:
- You’ll gain a variety of experience for your CV
- You’ll learn new skills such as customer service, communication and team working
- You’ll meet new people and get involved with your local community
- We’ll provide you with all the training you need
- Your out-of-pocket expenses will be covered if driving your own vehicle
- You’ll be helping more pets and people in need and playing a vital role in keeping families together
Disclaimer: This role requires you to undergo a driving licence check to ensure you have a full UK driving licence. Having points on your licence will not necessarily exclude you from volunteering with us. As our Pet Food Banks are brand new, your collections and deliveries may be ad hoc at first, until the food bank becomes more established. Blue Cross holds inclusion as a core organisational value. We positively encourage applications from eligible volunteers regardless of sex, race, disability, age, sexual orientation, transgender status, religion or belief, marital status or pregnancy and maternity. We actively embrace our differences and know that it is our differences that make us unique. You are very welcome at Blue Cross, without the need to hide any part of who you are.
