Are you into cars and vehicles? Would you like to use your knowledge of vehicle maintenance to help our busy Blue Cross teams? We're looking for volunteers with experience of maintaining vehicles to help keep our Blue Cross vehicles safe and reliable. Our cars and vans are a vital lifeline; carrying pets to vet appointments and to their new lives with their forever families. Those vehicles need regular basic checks and maintenance. Your skills and knowledge will save our teams valuable time so they can spend it helping more pets. If this sounds right up your street why not apply. Where you will be based: Centre

Why we want you: We're looking for volunteers with experience of maintaining vehicles to help keep our Blue Cross vehicles safe and reliable. Ideally you'll have a background in vehicle maintenance or mechanics and a desire to put those skills to good use by ensuring our fleet of vehicles is ready for anything.

What you will be doing:

  • Conducting checks around the vehicle including tyres, lights, mirrors, indicators, wipers and washers
  • Checking for any signs of damage or visible wear and tear
  • Checking instruments and equipment inside the vehicle including seat belts, alarms, horn and so on
  • Checking fluid levels including washer fluid, radiator water, oil level and diesel
  • Ensuring all safety equipment required is present including fire extinguisher and first aid kit
  • Ensuring the vehicles are clean inside and out ready for transporting animals
  • Completing necessary paperwork to record your observations

The skills you need:

  • Ideally some professional experience in vehicle maintenance but as a minimum experience in maintaining your own vehicle
  • Full UK driving licence and comprehensive driving insurance
  • Ability to work alone
  • Organisational skills and good attention to detail
  • Regular commitment and reliability
  • Confidence to raise any issues or concerns with the team
