We are looking for a committed, enthusiastic, and highly motivated Practice Nurse to join our CQC rated 'Outstanding' team. Based in the heart of rural Dorset, we operate over three sites with ample parking. Easy access to the towns of Wimborne, Poole, Dorchester and Bournemouth. Hours would be: Monday, Tuesday and Thursday 8am - 6pm. Friday 8am to 5:30pm with Wednesdays as a day off.

Main duties of the job:

  • To provide and maintain a high standard of nursing care for patients as well as providing nursing assistance to the doctors and other members of the primary healthcare team.
  • The duties will include all tasks normally undertaken by an RGN and in addition any roles agreed between the nurse and the doctors as appropriate, having regard to current training.

Job responsibilities:

  • Removal of Sutures/clips.
  • New Patient Medicals recognise health promotion opportunities and refer to clinic/colleagues where appropriate.
  • Urinalysis.
  • Record height, weight, blood pressure, temperature, and pulse measurements.
  • Record INRs (if trained) and blood glucose levels using in-house machines.
  • ECGs.
  • Blood pressure measurements.
  • Venepuncture.
  • Measure for compression hosiery, wound care, and doppler studies.
  • Maintaining cold chain of vaccines.
  • Offer advice about adult vaccinations and ensure vaccines are administered under patient group/specific directions.
  • Assessing problems presented opportunistically by patients, dealing with minor illness or injury.
  • Able to document consultations according to NMC guidelines.
  • Ensure awareness and refer as appropriate those patients who may be at risk of domestic violence, substance abuse, addictive behaviour, and vulnerable adults at risk.
  • Provide a holistic approach to wound management and implement wound care in line with current evidence-based guidelines.
  • Ability to monitor and manage maintenance of stock and equipment to include refrigeration and emergency equipment, rotating stock as required.
  • Ensure safe storage, rotating and disposing of vaccines and drugs.
  • Disseminate learning and information gained to other team members in order to share good practice and inform others about current and future developments.
  • Working alongside the District Nurses in the community if required.
  • Adhere and work to the practice policies.

  • Previous experience in a general practice environment
  • Working independently and as part of a team
