Position Overview: We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Global Employment Tax Specialist, in a newly created role. In this role, you will be responsible for managing all aspects of employment-related tax compliance, advisory, and risk management across the company, in conjunction with a wide variety of stakeholder teams, namely Equity, Payroll, Benefits, Tax and Finance. This includes ensuring compliance with employment tax legislation, optimizing tax efficiency and savings, and providing strategic advice on remuneration structures, implementations and cross-border employment issues.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of employment tax legislation and ensure policies and processes reflect current requirements.
- Provide strategic advice on the employment tax implications of remuneration packages, equity and bonus plans.
- Assist the payroll function with bonus and equity apportionment processes.
- Manage and support Payroll and Tax teams with all employment tax compliance obligations, including PAYE, Social Security, benefits-in-kind, P11Ds, and Appendix 4.
- Document and implement overseas tax efficient compensation schemes.
- Streamline and maintain the company benefit and expense tax review, ensuring compliance.
- Take responsibility and manage filings of annual FBT and UK/Ireland PSA submissions accurately and on time.
- Assess and manage the company’s IR35 and off-payroll workforce risk and strategy globally.
- Oversee the accurate and timely submission of employment tax filings to HMRC or other relevant tax authorities.
- Advise on tax-efficient structuring of secondee, expatriate, and cross-border employee arrangements, as appropriate.
- Support HR with employment tax considerations in recruitment, terminations, and incentive planning.
- Develop and maintain robust controls to mitigate employment tax risks.
- Lead internal reviews and audits of employment tax processes, ensuring clear and well-documented procedures and policies.
- Act as the employment tax subject matter expert with HMRC and other relevant tax authorities, liaising with external advisors where necessary.
- Support due diligence processes from an employment tax perspective, including new office creation.
Qualifications:
- Professional tax or accounting qualification such as CTA, ACA, ACCA, or equivalent.
- 5+ years of experience in employment tax, ideally within financial services, asset management, or private equity.
- Strong global technical knowledge of withholding tax, social security, benefits-in-kind, PSA & FBT, and off-payroll working rules.
- Proven track record in managing complex employment tax compliance and advisory projects.
- Experience liaising directly with tax authorities and handling tax audits or enquiries.
- Ability to interpret and apply employment tax legislation across multiple jurisdictions.
- Proficiency in HRIS and mobility management software is a plus.
