If you are a dedicated, driven teacher of Geography who has a real passion for the subject and a drive to instil this in your learners/students then The Bishop’s Stortford High School has an exciting opportunity for you. We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, committed and engaging Teacher of Geography with excellent subject knowledge. The successful candidate will be able to promote the highest standards of achievement and have a good knowledge and understanding of recent developments in the subject. This is a fixed term contract for two terms from January 2027.
The Bishop’s Stortford High School is a popular, oversubscribed 6FE school of 1260 students, providing a single-sex education for boys in Years 7 to 11 with a thriving mixed sixth form of close to 400 students, including 133 female students. This is a very exciting time to be joining our Outstanding school, as we relocated to a brand-new state-of-the-art school, in September 2024, on a large site less than a mile from our previous location. We have a fantastic new learning environment, supported by cutting edge technology, and huge opportunities for the future.
The vast majority of our students really enjoy learning Geography and this is partly due to the inclusive, yet aspirational nature of the department. We have a strong history of success at both GCSE and A Level. Each year, over 90% of students gain grade 4+ and around 60% gain grade 7+ at GCSE. We currently have 2 A-Level Geography classes in Year 12 with outcomes also reflecting students’ high ability and enthusiasm for the subject. As a result of excellent teaching, our students consistently achieve fantastic academic outcomes at both GCSE and A-Level.
Behaviour is exemplary in lessons and around the school, which means the school has a calm atmosphere and students are ready to learn. Pupils are polite, well-mannered and kind, and are ambassadors for the school, demonstrating excellent behaviours in all that they do. (Ofsted 2023)
The Geography department achieves outstanding examination results, is committed to fieldwork and runs numerous trips in Key Stage 3 and 4 to study rivers, coasts, regeneration and sustainable urban development amongst other topics; at Key Stage 5 we take students to London and for a residential stay in Dorset.
