The Bishop of Winchester Academy is committed to creating an inclusive environment where every student can thrive and we are looking for a dedicated Deputy SENCo to help lead and support this mission. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, and will have vision, expertise and commitment in the area of SEN. The assistant SENCO will ideally have experience in multi‑agency working and have a strong awareness of the relevant SEN legislation that underpins SEN within schools.
37 hours per week, term time only (39 weeks)
Actual - £26,466.48 to £28,662.25 per annum (Full time equivalent £30,077.64 to £32,573.02)
The successful candidate will:
- Be educated to degree level ideally in Psychology / SEN / Child Development
- Hold both English and Maths GCSE at C grade or higher
- Show commitment to the inclusion of all pupils, ensuring the needs of identified students, including those with EHCPs, are effectively met.
- Support the coordination of SEND provision across the academy, working closely with staff, parents, and external agencies
- Bring enthusiasm, flexibility and an openness to new approaches
- Have experience of teaching / supporting pupils with SEND in a mainstream setting
- Have knowledge of current practice and developments for pupils with SEND
- Promote inclusive teaching practices and raise awareness of SEND across the academy
- Contribute to the strategic development of SEND provision and student outcomes
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing learning support to students under the direction of the SENCo
- Supporting and liaising with staff, parents and external agencies
- Ensuring the needs of identified students is met by coordinating support and provision for students with EHCPs
- Support the Learning Support Assistant team with ensuring high-quality in-class support
- Working with class teachers and other academy staff to ensure awareness of the implications of SEND
