BioGrad Education is seeking four Laboratory technicians, each responsible for one of four key regions. In this role, you will undertake general supervised laboratory duties to support the teaching across all courses at your designated site.
£24,408 per annum
Key Responsibilities
- Working as part of a team to maintain the sterility of laboratories and their equipment.
- Support lecturing staff on A-level Science courses and other summer school, postgraduate and undergraduate courses.
- Preparation and aliquoting of reagents.
- Maintenance of mammalian cell lines and bacterial stocks.
- Completion of regular stock checks and re‑stocking of laboratory equipment and reagents.
- Collection and distribution of laboratory deliveries.
- Ordering and receiving deliveries of stock and keeping track of stock.
- Working in the laboratories assisting students to perform various lab techniques such as serial dilutions, PCR, western blot, cell culture, microbiology.
Health and Safety
- Completion of COSHH forms and ensuring all COSHH is updated annually.
- Updating the relevant COSHH and Risk Assessment documents for each course where relevant.
- Following all laboratory safety guidelines.
- Adhering to PPE protocols.
- Work in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures, Health and Safety guidelines, ISO standards and COSHH guidelines.
- Understand and perform procedures for spillage of chemical and biological material, and fire alarm procedure.
- Maintain stock levels of all PPE and equipment.
- Responsible for the health and safety of students in the laboratories making sure students are not left alone in the laboratory areas.
Person Specification
- A Level in Biology or Chemistry Level 3 or 5 Laboratory Technician.

Skills & Knowledge
- Excellent practical and hands‑on laboratory skills.
- Ability to perform various techniques in molecular biology and mammalian cell culture as well as prep of cell lines and reagents.
- Ability to follow protocols correctly and precisely.
- Working towards quality standards.
- Ability to work as part of a small team.
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal, combined with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to liaise with students, colleagues and stakeholders.
- Microsoft office including excel.
Additional Requirements
- The successful candidate will be required to carry out administrative duties when required.
- The role will also require the holder to be the First Aider on site.
