The Big Phone Store is looking for a strong in-house writer to join our team full-time in Wolverhampton. We need someone who can take a brief, understand the goal, learn our terminology quickly, and produce clear, accurate, well-structured content across different parts of the business. This role is not limited to e-commerce.
You could be writing:
- Website content
- Articles
- Sales materials
- Email copy
- Customer-facing messaging
- Internal communications
- Supplier/corporate content
The key requirement is simple: you must be able to write properly. We are looking for someone with an excellent grasp of written English who takes pride in quality and can produce work that makes sense, reads well, and is ready to use.
What You’ll Be Doing
You’ll create and improve content across a wide range of business needs, including:
- Website pages and landing page copy
- Articles, guides and blog content
- Product/category messaging
- Sales and marketing materials (leaflets, brochures, one-pagers)
- Email copy and campaign messaging
- Internal communications and business documents
- Supplier/corporate-facing written content
- Editing and rewriting existing content for clarity, grammar, structure and accuracy
You’ll be expected to work from briefs and rough notes, ask good questions when needed, and turn ideas into polished content.
Must-have What We’re Looking For
- Excellent written English (grammar, punctuation, structure and clarity)
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to write for different audiences (consumer, corporate, internal, supplier)
- Ability to understand new terminology and business subjects quickly
- Ability to take a brief and work independently
- Strong logic and structure in your writing
- High standards; you do not submit sloppy work
Preferred (not Essential)
- SEO content experience
- eCommerce content experience
- Email marketing copy experience
- Experience writing in technical, product-led or operational businesses
- SEO is helpful, but it is not the priority. Writing quality is.
AI Use (Important)
We use modern tools, including AI, but there is a clear standard:
- Using AI to support research, ideas, structure or direction is fine
- Submitting generic AI-written content as finished work is not acceptable
Anyone can generate text. We need someone who can think, edit, shape, and improve it.
Who This Role Suits
This role suits someone who:
- Enjoys writing and rewriting until it’s right
- Spots weak grammar and poor structure quickly
- Can adapt tone depending on the audience
- Can turn rough information into clear, usable content
- Takes ownership of quality
- Does not need constant step-by-step instruction
This role will not suit someone who needs to be hand-held through every task.
