Key Responsibilities

  • Operational Management
    • Monitor the performance of waste collection, recycling, and garden waste services
    • Investigate missed collections, complaints, and operational issues, ensuring prompt resolution
    • Carry out inspections and service audits to maintain standards
    • Support the management and performance monitoring of waste contractors
  • Service Improvement
    • Analyse service data and KPIs to identify trends and improvements
    • Assist in developing and delivering waste reduction and sustainability initiatives
    • Support the rollout of new services and legislative changes
  • Customer & Community Engagement
    • Respond to customer enquiries, service requests and complaints
    • Liaise with residents, businesses, councillors, and community groups
    • Promote recycling and waste minimisation through awareness campaigns
  • Compliance & Enforcement
    • Ensure compliance with environmental legislation, waste regulations, and H&S requirements
    • Assist with investigations into fly-tipping, contamination, and environmental offences
    • Prepare reports and evidence to support enforcement action
  • Health & Safety
    • Promote safe working practices across all operations
    • Conduct risk assessments and site inspections
    • Monitor contractor and staff compliance with H&S procedures
  • Administration & Reporting
    • Maintain accurate records, systems, and databases
    • Produce reports, statistics, and performance data
    • Assist with budget monitoring and procurement activity

Person Specification

  • Essential
    • Experience in waste management, environmental services, or similar
    • Knowledge of waste collection and recycling services
    • Understanding of environmental legislation and health & safety requirements
    • Strong communication and customer service skills
    • Ability to analyse data and produce reports
    • Competent in Microsoft Office
    • Full UK driving licence
  • Desirable
    • Local authority experience
    • Contract management and performance monitoring experience
    • Knowledge of environmental enforcement and waste legislation
    • Relevant qualification in environmental or waste management
