The Best Connection are working in partnership with our bespoke client based in Chiswick, West London to recruit an Upholstery Hand Sewer to join their renowned bespoke upholstery business.
We are seeking a skilled an experienced Upholstery Hand Sewer to undertake this job role on a temp to perm basis.
Responsibilities of the Upholstery Hand Sewer
- Execute precise hand-sewing techniques, including slip stitching, blind stitching, and ladder stitching on finished upholstery pieces.
- Close outside backs, arms, and cushions on a variety of furniture styles, ensuring seams are tight, straight, and virtually invisible.
- Apply finishing details such as braids, fringes, piping, etc.
- Work confidently with a wide range of materials, including silks, velvet's, heavy linens, and top-grain leathers.
- Inspect pieces for quality assurance before they leave the workshop.
- Repair or restore delicate fabrics on antique pieces where machine sewing is not viable.
- Must be commutable in using curved needles.
Requirements of the Upholstery Hand Sewer
- Must be able to demonstrate experience in upholstery sewing and tailoring and have exceptional manual dexterity.
- Have a deep understanding of fabric behaviours, grain liners and different thread techniques.
- High level of patience and a meticulous eye for detail.
- Ability to work efficiently and meet deadlines while maintaining quality.
- Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with the wider workshop team.
- Hours of work
Will be 08:00-17:00 Monday to Thursday and 08:00-12:00 on Friday, working a total of 36 hours per week.
