We are recruiting an experienced Transport Planner to join a fast-growing, fast-paced distribution operation. This is a hands-on planning role where you'll be responsible for coordinating transport operations, ensuring load accuracy, and maintaining high standards of compliance and service.
You will work closely with drivers, warehouse teams, and management to ensure efficient, compliant, and cost-effective deliveries.
Working Hours
- Training period: 05:00 - 14:00
- Post-training shift: 13:00 - 22:00
Key Responsibilities
- Transport Planning & Coordination
- Plan daily and weekly transport schedules to ensure timely and cost-effective deliveries.
- Allocate vehicles and drivers based on operational needs and availability.
- Monitor routes and make real-time adjustments to resolve delays or operational changes.
- Communicate routes, delivery instructions, and changes directly with drivers.
- Quality Control & Load Accuracy
- Take responsibility for quality control of outbound loads.
- Ensure items are correctly picked, checked, and loaded into the correct cages.
- Work closely with warehouse teams to resolve discrepancies before dispatch.
- Investigate and report loading or delivery errors, implementing corrective actions.
- Compliance & Standards
- Support transport operations in line with FORS standards.
- Assist with compliance relating to Driver Working Time Directive (WTD).
- Maintain awareness of HGV legal requirements, including drivers' hours and vehicle compliance.
- Support audits, inspections, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Communication & Administration
- Maintain accurate transport records, schedules, and delivery documentation.
- Communicate effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Provide operational support and reporting to the Transport Manager.
Requirements
- Essential
- Previous experience in a Transport Planner or logistics planning role.
- Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- High attention to detail, particularly around load accuracy and QC.
- Confident written and verbal communication skills.
- Desirable
- Knowledge of FORS standards.
- Understanding of Driver Working Time Directive (WTD).
- Awareness of HGV legal and operational obligations.
- Experience working closely with warehouse or distribution teams.
