The Best Connection are currently recruiting Grounds Maintenance Operatives on behalf of our client, a District Council. This is an excellent opportunity to join a dedicated team delivering high-quality grounds maintenance and conservation services across parks, nature reserves, and open spaces.
Location: Kidderminster
Full-time | Temporary/Ongoing (with potential extensions)
About the Role
You will play a key role in maintaining and enhancing the local environment, ensuring a safe, clean, and attractive outdoor space for the community.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out general grounds maintenance duties including:
- Grass cutting, hedge trimming, and edging
- Hoeing, sweeping, and leaf clearance
- Bedding, planting, and preparation of flower beds
- Pruning of shrubs and roses
- Tree, shrub, and bulb planting
- Turf laying and seeding
- Use a range of equipment such as strimmers, blowers, and other grounds maintenance tools
- Assist with the application of pesticides and fertilisers (where trained)
- Ensure all equipment and machinery is used safely and appropriately
- Follow all health and safety regulations, including COSHH, PUWER & LOLER
- Wear appropriate PPE, including high-visibility clothing when required
- Support wider team operations and maintain excellent standards of customer care
Essential Requirements
- Full UK driving licence
- Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions
- Physically fit and capable of manual outdoor work
- Ability to work effectively as part of a small team
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Previous experience in grounds maintenance or conservation
- Experience using equipment such as strimmers and blowers
- Knowledge of traffic management and safety measures for street or road works
- Relevant qualification (NVQ or equivalent) in:
- Amenity Management
- Horticulture
- Conservation
- Minimum of 1 year's practical experience in a related field
Working Conditions
- Flexible working hours may apply
- Occasional overtime and weekend work may be required
- Participation in out-of-hours emergency response when needed
- Time off in lieu provided for additional hours worked
