The Best Connection are seeking an experienced Onsite Fitter to join our Nottingham site, with specific responsibility for maintaining and supporting the site shredder - a critical piece of plant central to operational throughput and site performance. This is a highly skilled maintenance role requiring strong mechanical expertise, fault-finding capability and the ability to respond quickly to breakdowns. Downtime on the shredder has a direct impact on production, revenue and operational efficiency, so technical competence and decisiveness are essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned preventive maintenance (PPM) on the shredder and associated plant
- Diagnose mechanical faults quickly and implement effective repairs
- Respond to breakdowns as a priority to minimise operational downtime
- Conduct inspections and identify wear, damage or potential failure points
- Replace and repair components including bearings, shafts, hydraulics, motors and drive systems
- Liaise with the Shredder Manager regarding performance, downtime trends and required parts
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and job reports
- Ensure critical spares are identified and communicated
- Support continuous improvement in plant reliability and efficiency
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping within the maintenance area
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Work in accordance with site Health & Safety procedures
- Follow lock-out / tag-out procedures when working on machinery
- Ensure safe systems of work are adhered to at all times
- Report hazards, near misses and unsafe conditions
- Support compliance with environmental and site permit requirements
Essential:
- Proven experience as a mechanical fitter within heavy industry, recycling, aggregates or manufacturing
- Strong fault-finding and troubleshooting skills
- Experience working on plant or shredding equipment
- Good understanding of hydraulics, mechanical drive systems and heavy rotating machinery
- Ability to work under pressure and prioritise breakdown response
- Strong problem-solving capability
- Reliable and self-motivated
