The Best Connection are currently recruiting for a General Bookkeeper to join one of our prestigious client's offices based in Newark. Please note: This is a temporary role with an immediate start, with the potential to become permanent for the right candidate. Further details will be discussed at interview stage.
The Role
This position is responsible for overseeing the full accounts function during a transition period. You will take ownership of day-to-day bookkeeping activities, ensuring financial processes are maintained accurately and efficiently in a busy environment. This is a hands-on and independent role, requiring an experienced individual who can hit the ground running with minimal supervision. You will play a key role in maintaining continuity within the accounts department, supporting the wider business through accurate reporting and query resolution.
Key Responsibilities
- General Bookkeeping
- Manage and oversee the day-to-day accounts function
- Maintain accurate financial records and documentation
- Work independently to ensure smooth running of accounts processes
- Expenses & Processing
- Process staff expenses and ensure accurate recording
- Monitor and maintain financial data within systems
- Month-End Duties
- Prepare and post month-end journals
- Support the completion of monthly accounts processes
- Query Management
- Handle internal and external finance-related queries
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies efficiently
- Systems & Reporting
- Work across systems including SAGE, spreadsheets (Excel), and Simpro
- Ensure accuracy and consistency across all financial data

Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in a general bookkeeping or accounts role
- Strong working knowledge of SAGE and Microsoft Excel
- Experience using Simpro (desirable but not essential)
- Ability to manage a full accounts function with minimal supervision
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
Hours & Pay
- Working Hours: 08:30am - 16:30pm, Monday to Friday (30-minute unpaid break)
- Location: Fully office-based (no remote working available)
- Pay Rate: Negotiable depending on experience
