The Best Connection Reading is currently recruiting a
Yard Operative to join a reputable and well-established builders' merchant based in
Caversham.
This role is offered on a

Pay Rate: £13.34 per hour
Working Days: Monday to Friday
Hours: 7:00am - 4:30pm
Breaks: 1-hour unpaid lunch break
This role offers consistent weekday hours, allowing for a healthy work-life balance with no weekend work required.
Role Overview & Responsibilities
As a Yard Operative, you will play a key role in the day-to-day operations of the yard, ensuring everything runs smoothly and efficiently. Your responsibilities will include:
- Working outdoors in all weather conditions, supporting daily yard operations
- Providing a high level of customer service by assisting customers with queries and orders
- Receiving deliveries and accurately logging all incoming goods
- Supporting stock checks and ensuring inventory is correctly recorded
- Checking goods for accuracy and quality before loading
- Safely loading and unloading materials, ensuring correct handling procedures are followed
- Maintaining a clean, tidy, and well-organised yard environment
- Adhering to all health and safety regulations to ensure a safe working site for staff and customers
- FLT Counter balance needed.
This is a varied and active role where no two days are the same.
Candidate Requirements
We are looking for a reliable and motivated individual who takes pride in their work. The ideal candidate will:
- Be comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
- Be physically fit and capable of lifting
25kg+
- Have a strong work ethic and excellent attention to detail
- Be dependable, punctual, and committed to their role
- Enjoy working as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
- Have a proactive, can-do attitude and be willing to learn
Previous experience in a yard, warehouse, or builders' merchant environment is beneficial but not essential, as full training will be provided.
