Our client is highly experienced delivering high-quality machining, manufacturing, and engineering solutions across demanding industries. As a family-run business, they specialise in bespoke engineering work, including tyre mould manufacture, repair and refurbishment, CNC machining, and large-scale vertical and horizontal boring.
We are looking for an experienced CNC Miller/ Vertical Boring Milling (VBM / Tracer) Operator to join our workshop team in Newton Aycliffe. This is a hands‑on role suited to someone who can confidently read engineering drawings, set and operate machinery, and machine bespoke components to high standards. The work is varied, ranging from one-off components and repair work to precision‑machined parts for specialist engineering applications. As every job is different, the successful candidate must be adaptable, quality‑focused, and capable of working independently within a skilled engineering environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate Vertical Boring Milling (VBM / Tracer) machinery safely and efficiently
- Read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications accurately
- Manufacture, repair, and machine bespoke components to required tolerances
- Machine a variety of materials and large components as required
- Carry out machine set‑up, tooling changes, and adjustments to meet job specifications
- Inspect completed work to ensure quality and dimensional accuracy
- Support repair and refurbishment work where required
- Work closely with colleagues to deliver quality engineering solutions for customers
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping and workshop safety
Qualifications
- Proven experience operating Vertical Boring Milling / Tracer machinery
- Ability to read and understand engineering drawings
- Experience working in a bespoke or jobbing engineering environment preferred
- Strong understanding of machining processes and tolerances
