Senior Authorised Person (SAP) to join their team.

Senior Authorised Person (SAP) Role Purpose

To deliver and control safe systems of work on high voltage substation sites, undertaking switching, isolation and earthing and controlling access under a permit-to-work regime in accordance with the relevant DNO/TO safety rules.

Senior Authorised Person (SAP) Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the appointed SAP for HV switching operations up to the authorised voltage level (11k V – 132k V / 400k V as authorised).
  • Prepare and issue safety documentation – permits to work, sanctions for test, limitations of access and safety programmes.
  • Plan and carry out switching schedules, points of isolation and earthing.
  • Establish and maintain safe systems of work; control site access, key safety and safety keys.
  • Liaise with DNO/TO control rooms and client representatives to coordinate access and outages.
  • Review and approve risk assessments and method statements (RAMS) for HV activities.
  • Brief, supervise and confirm the competence of working parties operating under permit.
  • Support testing and commissioning teams by providing safe isolations and earths.
  • Maintain switching logs, safety records and site safety documentation.
  • Promote and enforce HSE compliance and HVSS safety policy at all times.

Applicants must hold current authorisation and/or demonstrable delivery experience on at least ONE of the following distribution or transmission networks:

  • Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN)
  • UK Power Networks (UKPN)
  • National Grid Electricity Distribution (NGED)
  • National Grid (NG)

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Current SAP / Senior Authorised Person authorisation on at least one of SSEN, UKPN, NGED or NG.
  • Relevant City & Guilds / NVQ Level 3 in electrical engineering or equivalent HV qualification.
  • CDM awareness; SSSTS or SMSTS desirable.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Experience

  • Proven HV switching, isolation and earthing experience on DNO/TO networks.
  • Substation environments up to 132k V, with 400k V experience an advantage.
  • Working knowledge of the relevant network operator's safety rules and permit systems.

Skills & Attributes

  • Thorough understanding of HV plant, switchgear and protection systems.
  • Strong safety leadership and the authority to stop unsafe work.
  • Accurate documentation and record-keeping.
  • Clear communicator with control rooms, clients and site teams.
