As a family‑run business, they specialise in bespoke engineering work, including tyre mould manufacture, repair and refurbishment, CNC machining, and large‑scale vertical and horizontal boring.
The Role
We are looking for an experienced CNC Miller/ Vertical Boring Milling (VBM / Tracer) Operator to join our workshop team in Newton Aycliffe. This is a hands‑on role suited to someone who can confidently read engineering drawings, set and operate machinery, and machine bespoke components to high standards. The work is varied, ranging from one‑off components and repair work to precision‑machined parts for specialist engineering applications. As every job is different, the successful candidate must be adaptable, quality‑focused, and capable of working independently within a skilled engineering environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate Vertical Boring Milling (VBM / Tracer) machinery safely and efficiently
- Read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications accurately
- Manufacture, repair, and machine bespoke components to required tolerances
- Machine a variety of materials and large components as required
- Carry out machine set‑up, tooling changes, and adjustments to meet job specifications
- Inspect completed work to ensure quality and dimensional accuracy
- Support repair and refurbishment work where required
- Work closely with colleagues to deliver quality engineering solutions for customers
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping and workshop safety
Requirements
- Proven experience operating Vertical Boring Milling / Tracer machinery
- Ability to read and understand engineering drawings
- Experience working in a bespoke or jobbing engineering environment preferred
- Strong understanding of machining processes and tolerances
- Ability to work independently and use initiative
Hours of work/pay rate
Monday to Thursday – day shift only 07:00 a.m. – 16:15 p.m. Salary is £16.00 per hour Temp to perm for the right person
