Berkeley Scott is recruiting a Sous Chef for one of our leading education clients in East London. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate and motivated chef to support the delivery of fresh, nutritious, high-quality meals for students, staff, and events. Working closely with the Head Chef, you will play a key role in the day-to-day running of the kitchen, including food preparation, menu planning, stock management, and maintaining the highest standards of food hygiene and safety.
We are looking for a strong team player who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys contributing ideas, and wants to be part of a forward-thinking catering operation.
Hours and Remuneration
- Monday to Friday
- 7am – 3pm
- £28,600 - £30,600 (term time only, salary dependant on experience, temp hourly rate before perm position)
- Temp-to-perm opportunity with trial period
- Weekends off
Key Responsibilities
- Support the daily operation of the kitchen and catering team
- Prepare fresh meals
- Assist with menu planning and food presentation
- Maintain Food & Health Safety standards and complete all required paperwork
- Support stock control, food ordering, and inventory management
- Ensure prompt service of all meals
- Assist with budget monitoring and day-to-day site operations
- Contribute ideas to enhance and develop the catering provision
Requirements
- Previous experience in a professional kitchen as a Sous Chef, Senior Chef de Partie, or similar role
- Food Safety Level 2 Certificate (Level 3 desirable)
- Enhanced DBS Certificate (Child Workforce)
- Right to Work in the UK
- 2 employment references
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong organisational and time management skills
- Ability to work effectively under pressure
- Passion for fresh food and high standards
